Member Spotlight
Bill Trigg Jr., Active Rotary Member

Years at Boardman Rotary: 44, almost 45
I really enjoyed getting to know Bill when I sat down with him after a Club meeting. I had never had the chance to sit down with Bill and talk with him - which was a mistake. Bill was open to chat about Rotary, mission trips, and his family. Service Above Self truly runs through Bill's DNA. It led me to really appreciate the stories behind our members and cannot wait to learn more each month. I hope you will enjoy Bill's story as much as I did!

Bill Trigg has been a cornerstone of the Boardman Rotary Club since 1981, dedicating over four decades of service to the community and beyond. Bill was inspired to join Rotary after his daughter became a Rotary exchange student—a tradition that grew as three of his daughters ultimately studied abroad in Japan and Norway. His connection to Rotary runs even deeper, following in the footsteps of his father, who was also a Rotarian.

Over the years, Bill’s heart for service has taken him around the globe. He has participated in over 10 mission trips to Mexico and Guatemala, exemplifying Rotary’s core value of "Service Above Self." Whether supporting polio eradication efforts, contributing to international projects, or connecting directly with those less fortunate, Bill’s generosity and heart of gold shine through in everything he does. The stories Bill told me about his mission trips were powerful and he sets an example for future Rotarians to get involved and see how others live beyond the U.S.

Reflecting on his decades with the club, Bill fondly recalls past district conferences and hosting overnight gatherings for up to 65 youth exchange students at Camp Stambaugh, complete with bonfires, games, and hot dogs on a spit.

For Bill, what keeps him coming back year after year is the unique bond among the members. Outside of Rotary, you can often find him out on the water boating or fishing on Lake Erie and Lake Berlin. Largest fish Bill ever caught was a 10 lb. Northern Pike!

His top piece of advice for new members is simple: Get involved in hands-on service projects, as that’s where true connections and lifelong friendships are built.

BRIAN'S SONG OF THE MONTH
If you don't know already, Brian Governor runs our Song of the Week schedule at Rotary. So, I wanted to dedicate this part of the newsletter to him! Singing may not be anyone's full time job in the Club, but who doesn't enjoy hearing a good ole round of Lil Liza Jane to brighten up our day!

Our September song of the Month is "Listen to the Music" by the Doobie Brothers!

Fun Fact:The Doobie Brothers were very popular in their earlier days with the famous motorcycle club "Hell's Angels".
