Today, we were joined by Krista Beniston, Director of Planning and Development at Boardman Township, along with Jason Loree, who is the Boardman Township Administrator. Both Krista and Jason shared with us some upcoming details regarding the Southern Park Mall. An investment of $36 million dollars will go towards exterior and interior changes to the mall, along with developing four acres of green space. Final plans have not been determined regarding what will go into the green space area but the possibilities include an amphitheater or grassy area for a farmers market. There will also be a hike and bike trail that will be incorporated into this new space and connect to Boardman Park. On Sept 7, 2019, Boardman Township will be holding a Community Day in front of the mall's food court and will provide more information about the project!
Other Boardman updates including adding a few restaurants and a coffee shop to the old K-Mart lot off of 224. Also, utility work will begin early 20202 for the new Meijer's that is going in on 224 by Tippecanoe Road, construction should start in Summer of 2020 and finished in 2021.
Krista also mentioned the updates to the zoning codes. There will be public meetings held to discuss these changes, but you can also look at the website www.buildingabetterboardman.com for updates!
