David Horning gave Boardman Rotary an overview of his concept, The Perspective Directive, at the Tuesday, May 31 meeting.
Horning, an Akron native, studied political science in college. However, after moving through school without much passion about the subject, he decided to pursue his love of comedy and acting. After success in New York with the Upright Citizen's Brigade, Funny or Die, and others, he decided he wanted to deliver a meaningful message through comedy. Horning has developed several motivational programs and workshops.
The Perspective Directive urges individuals to realize that each can create their own happiness and growth through changing perspective. Horning added that love, joy, freedom, engagement, peace of mind, self-belief, abundance and passion are all accessible if you change your perspective.
Horning gave four ways to achieve perspective:
1. realize that thoughts, words and actions are responsible for my results.
2. obtain an opportunity objective: nothing is GOOD or BAD, but within every experience lies opportunity.
3. focus on what we like about others, as opposed t what we don't. It increases the chance of positive interaction.
4. evolver revolver: the key to success is being able to adapt to failures and evolve.
