Program: Crime Stoppers
On Tuesday, Boardman Rotary had an overview of the organization, Crime Stoppers.

The organization, which is now in its 40th year, is a national organization of non-law enforcement civilians who assist police departments and other agencies in providing tips and other information to help solve crimes. As Bill explained, law enforcement officials are always looking for information to solve crimes, and any tips are welcome. One small piece of information could be the information that erases a mystery.

The organization operates on three  basic tenets of involvement, anonymity and rewards. All it takes is a person to be involved in their community in any way. If they have a piece of information, they can call a 24-hour hotline that is operated by a non-law enforcement official. The operator will take the information, and provide a code number to the person on the other end. No names are ever exchanged. This acts as a protection so that the witness has no fear of retribution. If that piece of information leads to the solving of the crime, the anonymous supplier will receive a financial reward that is also provided anonymously.

Crime Stoppers has been in the Youngstown area for about 10 years. The organization is currently heavily investigating the murder of Cody Pitts in Hubbard.
