Set to open in the second half of 2014, Hollywood Gaming in Austintown will bring jobs, racing and plenty of entertainment to the community, said its director Mike Galle.
Galle spoke to Boardman Rotary on Tuesday about the combined gaming area and casino, discussing its many amenities and potential for job growth in the Mahoning Valley. The location will feature 1,000 video lottery terminals - or VLTs - on-site, as well as a one-mile thoroughbred racetrack. The racing season at the Mahoning Valley location will run from November through April and feature four days each week of live races. The site will also offer a lounge area, a pastry and coffee shop and fine dining.
Hollywood Gaming is one of 27 facilities owned nationwide by Penn National Gaming. The company has provided a capital investment of $125 million for construction of the gaming area and racino, allowing for the creation of 1,000 construction jobs over the life of the project. Another approximately 1,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created as a results of its opening.
Raffle Tickets for a chance to take a 45-minute ride in a B-25 or B-17 WWII era plan are being sold to club members to offset the club’s sponsorship donation. The May 16 plane ride is part of the 2014 Thunder Over The Valley Air Show festivities.
Salvation Army Annual Civic Dinner
The Salvation Army of the Mahoning County is honoring the Boardman Rotary for its outstanding commitment to service and the community. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. at The Lake Club in Poland. The club has agreed to purchase one table at a cost of $500 at the dinner. Single tickets are also available at a cost of $70 per ticket.
A First Reading
Penny Summer gave a first reading of a request of $3,500 from Boardman Rotary for the purchase of two AED defibrillator units for the Boardman School District. One will be place in Boardman Center Middle School. The other will be placed at Boardman High School.
