On Tuesday, April 29, we welcomed to the mic two of our most recent additions to the Rotary Club of Boardman: Lou Garland and Dave Maxwell. Here are a few notes on our new Rotarians.
Lou Garland literally grew up in the Boardman Rotary as grandson of Lou "Mr. Rotary" Young. He works as Assistant General Counsel for Talmer Bank and Trust. Lou is an active Shriner, a 1994 graduate of Boardman High School, and a graduate of THE Ohio State University. Lou was sponsored by Tom Davison.
Dave Maxwell is a graduate of South Range High School and Youngstown State University. He is currently an independent Financial Advisor with Bury Financial Group. Dave serves on the board of the Mahoning Valley Young Professionals (MVYP) and enjoys golfing. He was sponsored by Beth Ann Tabak.
Raffle Tickets for a chance to take a 45-minute ride in a B-25 or B-17 WWII era plan are being sold to club members to offset the club’s sponsorship donation. The May 16 plane ride is part of the 2014 Thunder Over The Valley Air Show festivities.
Salvation Army Annual Civic Dinner
The Salvation Army of the Mahoning County is honoring the Boardman Rotary for its outstanding commitment to service and the community. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 14 at 5:30 p.m. at The Lake Club in Poland. The club has agreed to purchase one table at a cost of $500 at the dinner. Single tickets are also available at a cost of $70 per ticket.
A Second Reading
Penny Summer gave a second reading of a request of $3,500 from Boardman Rotary for the purchase of two AED defibrillator units for the Boardman School District. One will be place in Boardman Center Middle School. The other will be placed at Boardman High School.
Nik Amstutz
Nik is currently recovering at Vibra Hospital in room 204. Ginny said you are welcome to visit. Our continued thoughts and prayers are with the entire Amstutz family.
Ash Welch
On April 24, Linda and Tom Hatthorn visited with Ash Welch and he sends his best to all. He is well. Both he and Peg find their new churches very rewarding. He thanks all for their concerns about son, Vijay. He is responding well to chemo. Ash now has a sailboat to teach his four-year-old grandson how to fulfill his dream of being a pirate.
